Simple but robust construction was the hallmark of the French ‘deux chevaux.’ Speed and performance were not. So if you need to haul some wine, cheese, and baguettes to your local cruise in and don’t care how long it’ll take you to get there, then a 2CV is just what you need.
Gone, reportedly, is this one’s original and 425-cc flat two-cylinder engine. In its place, a later-model 602-cc unit has been installed. The car doesn’t run, but the seller notes that the engine turns freely by hand—a definite plus. Wiring and brakes will need to be added for driving functionality.
The body appears mostly complete. “Loaded with New Old Stock parts including four fenders, four doors, hood, firewall, frame (later galvanized), rear boot (trunk) both bumpers, sunroof top assembly, mirrors and tail lamps.” The House of Kolor paint is described as “funky,” an apt description whether you like it or not. Only minor surface rust is apparent on the underside of the floors in the photos.
Parts aren’t difficult to find, many clubs and parts sources are available online, including eBay Motors. It helps that over 3.7 million 2CVs were built from 1948 to 1990, along with another 5 million mechanically identical variants. You might even be surprised what can be found at the local auto parts store.
This car has no title, and depending on which state you’re in, that may or may not be a problem. Be sure to check with your local DMV before bidding.
