Hunter S. Thompson The BOOK of JONES by Ralph Steadman 1st U.S. Printing 1997  

   Greetings, you are bidding on, "The Book of Jones" by Ralph Steadman.  Published in 1997, this is a stated first U.S. edition.  The letterline starts at "A" (same as 1), is the very first printing (I think they only did the one U.S. printing).  The Book of Jones is already 15 years out of print (actual book is pictured).

   So Ralph Steadman goes to Owl Farm to visit his good friend Hunter S. Thompson.  They were working on The Curse of Lono.  He meets a cat (real cat) named Jones, (Hunter's cat).  Ralph just fell in love with this odd ball feline. This book is the result of a that said meeting.  This book is full of Steadman's wonderful illustrations.  It is a bit wacky.  I conferred with 2 experts in the field, my cats, LuLu & Busther, they give it 2 paws way up.  Very entertaining, the usual odd thoughts & twisted illustrations from Ralph.  A couple quotes, "A tribute to a mercurial, manic, and utterly seductive cat...If The Book of Jones doesn't make every dog lover wake up to reality, I don't know what will..." 

  Overall condition of the dustcover is very good + - near excellent.  This is a new & unread 14 year old book, has a little mild shelfwear.  There's not any lengthy folds, no long heavy creases, no rips, no large tears, no push holes, no chips, no chunks missing.  The color is bright, the dustcover is clean & white & has good gloss.  There's one small thin short darker rub mark on the back panel.  No big dark stains, no heavy grime, no sun fade, no water marks, no deep age tone, no all over yellowing, no foxing, no age spots.  There's a little bit of light scattered surface rubbing in places, no color loss.  There's not real hard heavy rub wear.  There's a short surface line on both spine gulleys (on the flat panels) near the bottom spine ends.  There's not heavy surface markings - no harsh scrapes, no big gouges, no deep long line marks, no large indents, no giant impressions on the flat panels.  The corners are sound, some have little bits of shelfwear, both bottom corners have a small line on the outer tip right hand edges.  No large push marks, no tears, no frays, no long creases, no huge wrinkle lines on the corner areas.  The edges are sound & are pretty straight, there's a short line mark below the top back edge - no whacks, no large deep marks, no tears, no fraying no real hard rub wear.  The bottom spine end has some little crimp mark  lines (show on the front & back panel at the spine ends), top end is square - no torn end flaps, no huge push marks, no splits.  There's not any creases, no stress cracks, no heavy raised marks, no long bubble lines, no tears, no chips along the spine edge.  Retains it's price, has not been clipped, no remainder marks.  The dustcover is very sound, has a little minor shelfwear, no major condition issues.   

  Overall condition of the book is - near excellent.  The interior is clean & complete, the pages are fresh.  None torn or missing, nothing clipped out, no big folds, no large creases.  No dark stains, no heavy grime, no water damage, no foxing, no huge age spots, no writing.  The pages are white, no deep age tone.  There's not any harsh surface marks.  The page corners are flat & square - no long bend lines, no heavy tip curls or tip folds, no lengthy creases, no big corner folds, no large corner marks.  The outer orange boards are clean & uniform in color.  No dark stains, no heavy grime, no big deep surface marks, no liquid related lighter spots.  The silver spine lettering is bright & intact.  Both spine ends have some light crimping.  No deep creases, no torn end flaps, no splits, no heavy spine slant, the text block is square.  The boards & binding are real tight, the hinges are very solid.  No loose pages, no cracked or split internal spine, no binding issues.  The board edges are straight - no whacks, no severe deep marks, no splits, no bald spots, no rub wear through the paper.  The book corners are basically pretty square, both bottom corners have a very small tip outer edge mark.  The corners are not bashed in.  No big raised marks, no huge push marks, no long wrinkle lines, no heavy creases on the corner flats.  The closed edges are clean & pretty crisp - no dark stains, no large smudges, no heavy grime, no foxing, no big age spots, no remainder marks.  There's not any obvious heavy wear - no whacks, no long deep line marks, no huge indents, no harsh scuffs, no heavy numerous big bruise marks.  Again, this is an unread 15 year old book, has a little normal scattered shelfwear from being stacked & handled & what not.  Overall is a really sound copy, is pretty presentable.  This book is very clean & complete, is in much better shape the average.  There's not any major traumas, no severe condition issues.  All that said? Yes, reads just fine.  Great stuff from Ralph Steadman.  Strong addition for the Gonzo library.  Keep the Memory of the Good Doctor Alive...
