Gabbia Vase

Being offered on this auction is beautiful figurine bud vase made by Lorenz Hutschenreuther, Selb, Bavaria. It is a part of Hutschenreuther‘s Art Deco collection. Vase is called ‘Gabbia’ (this means Cage in Italian). It represents a leaf. There is figurine of titmouse sitting on the leaf. Gentle texture of porcelain beautifully resembles its feathers and details of leaf. Vase is fully glazed. It is all white as truly art deco. This is very warm and nice vase. It is written on the box – ‘… mit lieben Grüßen’, meaning ‘to greet with love’. Looks splendid. Hutschenreuther was well known as one of the greatest porcelain figurine makers for about 200 years. Its most famous Lion mark is a symbol of high quality and artistic design. Hutschenreuther’s art department was established in 1917. Nowadays, the Lion mark is under umbrella of Rosenthal Group. This figurine is marked on the backside with standard green production mark of Art Department used in c. 1970.

This ashtray was designed by Gunther R. Granget (b. 1932). Gunther Granget is one of the leading names in porcelain making industry of the 20th century. He studied sculpture with professor Trummer in Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. He worked for Hutschenreuther in 1956 - 1970. Since 1971 he has worked in his own design studio. He was a leader of Hutschenreuther’s Art Department in 1984 - 1996. He is the most know for his naturalistic studies. He travels across the world to study behavior of animals and keeps close contacts with scientific institutions and zoos. He created numerous exceptional animal porcelain sculptures for Hutschenreuther and Rosenthal. Between them ‘Crowns Crane Oak’, ‘Who Disturbs Whom’ (scream owl with black hood titmice), ‘Challenge’ (American Graureiher), "Secretary" and "Grant Gazelle". His animal figurines remain the most collectible.
