There are also kingfisher feather beads for sale through my store. THESE EARRINGS ARE BEING FEATURED IN THE DECEMBER 2009 BEAD TRENDS MAGAZINE!
These beautiful beads came from China several years ago. They have not been made or shipped to the US for several years and are usually only found in oriental antique shops where they are usually between $50 to hundreds of dollars each. These are handmade with copper and silver, then covered with real gold. Then the feathers of the Chinese Kingfisher bird are cut with tiny scissors and attached in the recesses of the beads. This is the natural color of these feathers. These were worn by royalty and some persons of high standing relating to royalty. This type of bead was particularly made from the early 1700s through the early 1900s with some being made through the mid 1900s. This particular collection is from around the 1940's and has been in careful storage which is why the feathers are in perfect shape. Each bead is a work of art. The spinning bead logo below is one of these beads.
