The
Small Sawmill Operator's Manual was developed by the
Department of Agriculture in 1952. It is intended to
serve as a handbook for operators of small mills.
Spanning 125 pages, it deals mainly with the types and
variations of equipment available, installation of
equipment, and operational techniques, especially for
mills of the circular head-saw type. The purpose is to
furnish operators with a reasonably complete and
detailed evaluation of various types of machinery and
handling equipment, so that the general standard of
operation may be raised by reducing costs, preventing
wastes, and improving the quality of the lumber.
