Rolnik Publishers of Tel Aviv, Israel, published the poster circa 1981, from artwork created by renowned Israeli Author and Artist Alona Frankel. The cheerful, colorful image brings joy to us all!
Artist Alona Frankel is known worldwide as a fine author and illustrator. Ms. Frankel (b.1937) was born in Poland and during World War II lived first in ghetto and then in hiding, alone and later with her parents. The family emigrated to Israel in 1949 where Alona studied at the Avni Institute. She has written and illustrated over 30 children's books and illustrated numerous other books by other authors.
The Institute for the Translation of Hebrew Literature (ITHL), which was founded to acquaint foreign readers with the best of modern Hebrew literature, tells of Ms. Frankel: "Her work has been exhibited both in Israel and abroad. Ms. Frankel has won numerous prizes for children's literature, including an Andersen Honor Citation. 'A Girl', her first book for adults, was awarded the prestigious Sapir Prize (2005) as well as the Buchman Prize (Yad Vashem) in 2005."
