Today, I have for auction, an incredible, absolutely amazing, antique tufted chenille bedspread, with a wedding ring design. It is signed in a corner "Katherine Lambs Work, and the date is either 1830 or 1930. I'd like to believe it is 1830, but can't say for sure. (I took a picture of the date, so you can try and make a judgment) The material, I believe, is linen (or a heavier cotton) and is seamed in the middle of the spread. There is the start of a separation of threads, not a hole, that is small. There are some light orange stains or spots, as pictured near the top of the spread. There is hand applied 8" fringe, that also has a couple of those orange spots on it. There was a bit extra trim left at the end, and the seamstress gathered it up, so there is a bit more fringe on one end. I found a couple of dark threads, woven in the linen. I found one tuft that was missing or skipped, and not sure if the side tufts have an occasional tuft missing or if that is the way it was sewn. There is also a tuft in the middle of a circle. Not sure why that is there. Measures approx. 68" x 87", not including the fringe. This is an amazing bedspread that was probably made as a gift for a wedding. This is a one of a kind keepsake. My pictures do not do justice to the spread. Please email me with any questions, and I will try to answer the best I can. Thanks for looking.
