Offered for auction is a lot of 6 Harper's Weekly Magazines from 1865, published during the Civil War. Each of the magazines is free of foxing/age spotting, but does show wear. There is chipping to the page edges, and some creasing. See photos. Books are illustrated throughout. The first is no. 177, from February 1865. -Magazine is complete, front cover is attached, back cover is separated but present. Topics include Peace, Sheridan's Victory at Middletown, Grierson's Raid, a sections of Charles Dickens book Our Mutual Friend and more. Next is no. 180 from may 1865.- Back cover is attached, front cover is torn loose but is present. Contents include Sherman's March, Battle of Kinston, Lee's Retreat, the Negro Enlistment Bill, another section of Charles Dickens Our Mutual Friend, Gilmore's Siege of Charleston, several short stories and more. June 1865 no. 181, volume 31.- Magazine is complete, but front cover is missing and back cover is separated. Internal pages are in good condition, no tears. Some chipping and creasing to page edges as in all the volumes, but still good condition for its age. Topics include Heroic Deeds of Heroic Men by John S.C. Abbott, Recollections of Grant, several poems in memoriam, a list of current events pertaining mostly to the war, and more. July 1865 No. 182 – very good condition. Front and back covers are attached, no foxing/age spotting. There is a name written in pencil on the front cover, but no other marks. Very little damage to page edges. Subjects include prison life, relics, personal recollections fo Abraham Lincoln, the last battle in the War, the flight of Jefferson Davis, President Johnson's Amnesty Proclamation, return of the soldiers, another installment of Our Mutual Friend by Dickens, several fiction pieces and more. August 1865 no. 183- good to very good condition. Front cover is attached, back cover is missing, but otherwise magazine is complete. Owner's name written on the front in pencil. Very little damage to page edges. Contents include a poem entitled After the War, a Tripe to Bodie Bluff, heroic Deeds of Heroic Men, Four Years Under Fire at Charleston, the Gettysburg Celebration, the Franco British Ironclad review, the Barber and the King, and several other fiction pieces. The last volume is from September 1865. -The front cover is torn off and missing, but the back cover is attached. There is some light spotting to the first page, but no other markings throughout the magazine. Topics include sketches of social life in China, A section of Armadale, a section of Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens, several updates in the current events section about the aftermath of the War, several fiction pieces and much more. These would make a wonderful addition to any collection, especially for those interested in the Civil War. For
