**What is LUX? Here is the textbook definition: LUX is a unit of illumination, equivalent to 0.0929 foot-candle and equal to the illumination produced by luminous flux of one lumen falling perpendicularly on a surface one meter square. Luminous flux is measured in lumens. One lux is equal to one lumen per square meter. Simply put, it is a measure of the intensity, as perceived by the human eye, of light that hits or passes through a surface. This camera comes equipped with a sensor that detects when these light, or LUX, levels increase and decrease. When levels fall below 0.02 LUX (such as when the room darkens as the sun goes down or when the lights are turned off), it will automatically switch the camera to "Night Vision" mode and will turn on the infrared (IR) illuminators. These IR illuminators will "light up" the room allowing the camera to see movement up to 30 feet away from the unit. Conversely, when light levels again increase to 0.02 LUX or higher, the sensor will detect this and automatically switch the camera to visual color mode. Think of "Visual" mode as simply what you would see when looking through the viewfinder of a camera or camcorder without the use of any digital enhancement.
