About the Author:  Brian Solomon is one of the most accomplished talents in the train hobby today.  He has authored many books on Railroads, and his writing and phographs have been featured in the most popular rail-fan publiscations around the world, including Trains, Railway Age ; Passenger Train Journal, and RailNews.

From the back cover:  Since the emergence of the railroads int he early 1800s, when steam engines worked across the landscape, smoke billowing from their mighty stacks, the locomotive has symbolized power and progress.  Even today, watching a locomotive speeding along the tracks fills us with notalgia for times gone by, and directs us to look ahead to the future with its ever-advancing technology.  In these pages, rail enthusiast Brian Solomon describes in detail the development of the locomotive, from the early steam designs to the latest in modern high-speed trains.  The informative text explains all the features of locomotive design and functions over the years and traces the different manufacturers and operators of these mighty machines.  The rich collection of historic and contemporary images brings to life these workhorses of the rails.  Devoted rail enthusiasts and casual obervers alike will marvel at the striking photos presented across the book's two foot long spreads, and all will soak int he fascinating history of the locomotive.

PLEASE READ THE BELOW CONDITIONS OF SALE THAT REGARD TO THE NEW STAR FEEDBACK SYSTEM EBAY HAS IMPLEMENTED as well as our shipping costs and special info regarding the penny lots and magazine ads.

FEEDBACK IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR A SELLER - Postive feedback will be left for buyer once final payment is received.

ADSWe do combine ship our vintage magazine ads (via media mail) and shipping costs are as follows: 1 – 10 Ads, Shipping Cost $3.38 11 – 25 Ads, Shipping Cost $3.63 ; 26 – 30 Ads, Shipping Cost $3.76 31 – 50 Ads, Shipping Cost $4.01.     (Shipping is determined by the # of individual ads, it you were to purchase 4 lots of 3 ads per lot, then the total # of ads would be 12 and shipping cost would be the $3.63) We will issue an invoice to the buyer, when the auction ends that reflects the shipping discount.   Condition:  Ads are in good to very good condition and are suitable for framing.  Edges of paper are brittle - I have stopped trimming many my ads in an effort to help reduce additional fraying or ragged edges.  Once you receive the ads, ragged edges can be trimmed and not effect the actual ad.  Before I would trim them but since the paper was brittle then they might get a little raggity again from handling.  Feel it reduces the amount of edge damage if I do not trim.

Regarding Shipping CostsPlease note that our shipping costs are set using the eBay Shipping Calculator via USPS Parcel Post or Media Mail. We are simply entering the weight of the item and the eBay calculator is then determining the cost to ship. We do add an additional .19 on each item for shipping to cover the tracking and delivery feature offered by USPS. Sometimes with collectible/fragile items, we find it necessary to add a small handling fee to cover the cost of peanuts, bubble-wrap, special mailers, etc., depending on the item being shipped and what is necessary to package it safely for shipping. Total Shipping/Handling costs are shown on each auction (you will never be asked to pay more than what is shown on the auction under Shipping/Handling). Therefore, if you bid you know up front and without surprise what the shipping cost is. We again ask, that in good faith, if you bid and know what the shipping cost is you do not hit us with anything less than a 5-star rating for shipping and handling. We have clearly made notice on every auction up front what the cost to ship is and if it is too high – please do not bid and then complain that is not fair to us as a seller. We do combine ship & offer combined shipping discounts.

We ask that if you feel the shipping cost is too high combined with the amount you wish to bid on an item, please do not bid. We strive for a 5-star rating for shipping/handling costs & have listed the cost to ship on the ad so that you know up front, before bidding, what shipping costs would be.  We choose the most economical shipping method available to us based on the auction item.  Buyers are never asked to pay more than the published shipping cost unless shipment is being made Internationally.

Note that when we have been creating the actual shipping label, if the shipping amount that the eBay calculator determined was considerably higher than actual, we have been issuing a shipping refund via Paypal. On the other hand, if the calculator estimated shipping too low, we have been paying the difference and losing money. Our buyers have never been asked to pay more than what was shown on the original auction ad.

**WE DO COMBINE SHIP and OFFER COMBINED SHIPPING DISCOUNTS. If you are a multiple auction winner, please do not complete the checkout process until we have sent you an invoice with the combined shipping discount reflected.

If you are pleased with your purchase, Please leave us 5 Stars! You might think that you are leaving a reasonable rating by giving a seller 3 or 4 Star's, however this is not true, eBay's feedback system treats anything less than 5 Star's as sub-standard and the seller may be restricted based on low ratings. A 4-star rating is actually a sub-standard rating for the seller. So in all fairness, we ask that if you were happy with your overall transaction please rate us 5 Stars as anything less is saying you were not pleased and will be detrimental to us. Also, please do not forget to leave feedback. We have several buyers that we assume were pleased with their purchase, but never left feedback for us. This also is detrimental as per the eBay feedback system. 

If there is a problem, before leaving negative feedback or less than a 5-star rating, contact us via email and we will make every effort to make it right so that your transaction is satisfactory. We have always been willing to issue a refund (less cost for shipping) if you wish to return an item you are not pleased with. If YOU as the buyer choose not to return the item, then please leave us the 5-star rating. At that point, we have done everything within our power to make sure your transaction was satisfactory and should not be penalized if you do not wish to return the item. We do NOT accept returns on the penny lots (see our disclaimer above under COINS). Thank You!
