A Pirate's Favorite Treasure!
When the Spanish explorers discovered the "NEW WORLD" in the early 1500's, they also discovered an abundant supply of precious metals such as gold, silver, and copper.
The demand for these metals in Europe was so great that crude coins were
quickly cut from a roll of metal shaped like a corn cob and shipped back to Spain. These oddly-shaped coins were hand stamped and the edges were clipped off until the correct weight was achieved.
The Spanish sailing vessels carrying this
treasure on the high seas were frequent targets of pirates and sometimes sank with their valuable cargo intact. These coins were so popular with pirates that names such "Pieces of Eight" and "Doubloons" were given to them.
The centuries-old copper "Cob-Coin" included in this collection IS NOT A REPRODUCTION and was actually minted between 1500 and 1700 A.D.!

One-Dollar Silver Certificates were issued by the United States Treasury from 1874 to 1964 and were REDEEMABLE IN SILVER BULLION OR COINAGE.

The Japanese Occupation Note included in this collection is remarkably well-preserved for a 65+ year-old piece of circulated paper currency. A Genuine Chinese Cash Coin
The ancient Chinese people originally used these tokens as a means of barter. The tokens originally took the form of knives or spades but eventually became a standardized, circular coin.
A hole was made in the center of each coin allowing it to be strung
together with others to form a higher denomination. These strings often contained up to 1000 cash coins which would make a very heavy 1000 dollar bill!
