How the Jackets
Came About I am a former sportswriter at the Baltimore Sun and worked in the Baltimore Colts PR department from 1969 - 1983. I often wear my original 42-year-old Colts jacket around town, and invariably people stop me, compliment me, and ask "where can I get one?" Last year, my college roommate (Russ), his son (Brian) and a friend of 49 years (Paul) asked for one; another friend (Tom) with whom I watch Ravens games, wanted one, as did my brother (Bill); my niece's husband (Joe) asked for one. So, I began to compile a list. I contracted to have jackets made for these friends, plus 15 others in various sizes. The ones on eBay are custom-made, professionally embroidered and sewn jackets, that are faithful, right down to the last stitch, to my jacket from 1968-69. They were done at the sports apparel company in Baltimore that used to letter and number the Colts uniforms, and now sews the Ravens uniforms. The reason there seems to be such a demand is the authenticity, quality, and faithfulness to the original. By contrast, the Mitchell and Ness' throwback is all wool (no leather sleeves), has a funky jumping horse that's not the right logo, doesn't even say BALTIMORE anywhere on the jacket, is cheaply made in the Orient, and to top it off, costs $400!
