Midwest Wind Products units are more efficient because they contain about 2 times more copper than other brands. We spare no expense when designing and building our high quality generators. We use a special "low profile" iron lamination on our stator. Less iron means less magnetic resistance to overcome. This is another reason why our units start up easier in light wind than other brands.
1. Generator produces high voltage. Observe all safety precautions and grounding codes.
2. Do not open generator or make modifications to it. This will void the warranty.
3. Generator parts including stator, rotor and bearings have very tight tolerances (air gap). Allow a 2 week IN SERVICE period for the bearings and rotor to break in.
4. To simplify installation, a 3 prong power outlet can be installed on the generator leads, which produce A/C current. After the generator has been installed , plug it into a good quality extension cord, or 3 wire conductor (not less than 16 AWG) and run the cord to your battery bank. Once there, snip the male end off the extension cord. Strip the wire jacket back to reveal the three wires (black, white and green). Color each of these wires BLACK. Install each wire on a rectifier screw terminal, using the crimp fittings provided. ( Refer to the picture below). It does not matter what terminal you place the 3 wires on. All are the same. Important! The green wire in the cord is not used as a ground. It is a "hot lead" from the generator, just like the black and white wires. All three wires should be colored BLACK.
Next, connect a field supplied wire from the positive end of the rectifier to your battey.(this is the bottom connection in the picture below). Finally connect a field supplied wire from the negative end of the rectifier to your battery. (this is the top connection in the picture below).
5. Like any other electrical appliance the generator must be protected. Please install an inline 10 or 15 AMP fuse in the positive wire between your battery and rectifier. If your generator does become damaged by over-current conditions, it will not be covered by warranty.
6. Also recomended is a charge "controller" which protects your battery from "over-charge". If you are using a charge controller or grid tie inverter refer to the manufacturers wiring instructions.
7. Never connect your generator directly to a battery without first installing the AC/DC rectifier and inline fuse.
8. Do not tie the generator directly to the grid. The AC/DC rectifier does not "Grid Enable" your generator.  |
