24 Volt, 40 Amp Automatic Reset Circuit Breaker

Protect your wind turbine, battery bank and alternative energy system from an over current or short circuit situation.

How does it work?

This Auto Reset Circuit Breaker is a Single Pole (Type 1) breaker. The metallic material inside the circuit breaker allows electricity to flow as long as the current stays under 40 amps. If the current exceeds 40 amps, the metallic material inside the breaker begins to heat up and deflect. This deflection breaks continuity inside the circuit breaker and electricity stops flowing. The circuit breaker will remain disconnected until the current drops below 40 amps. Once the current drops below 40 amps, the metallic material inside the circuit breaker cools, continuity is restored and electricity starts to flow again.

How do I select the amp size for the Auto Reset Circuit Breaker?

In general, a good rule of thumb is to select an operating current for a circuit breaker that is approximately 35% above the maximum operating current of the power source (e.g. wind turbine). For example, suppose the maximum operating current of your wind turbine is 30 amps. 35% more than 30 amps is 40.5 amps. A 40 amp circuit breaker would be a good choice for this particular wind turbine.
