ANTIQUE MEIJI PERIOD JAPANESE TANSU CHEST

This Japanese Tansu was purchased in 1947 from the Tokyo Antique Store in occupied Japan by actress Mamo Clark (Rawley)

Mamo Clark was the wife of Colonel James Rawley of the United States Army. In her acting career, Mamo Clark was the wife of Clark Gable in the 1935 Oscar Award Winning flim, "MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY" who played the part Miamiti.

The Tansu comes with its antique store receipt dated 1947 which mentions the chest was over 150 years old and was from the Meiji Period. According to this, the antique dealer made a mistake as the Tansu was either 35 to 75 years old at the time or was actually from the Edo Period, pre 1868. In any case, this is an original Antique Japanese Tansu and very hard to come by at this price.

This Tansu Measures 25" W x 13.5" D x 27.5" H. Construction was made with wood nails. Hardware is of hand forged iron.

Shipping is about $125 in the Continental U.S. If it is any less after crating, I will refund you the difference. If anything more, I will pay the extra cost. No shipping services available outside Continental U.S. If you are in Hawaii, Japan, or other country, you must arrange for your own carrier to pick up. I can have it crated and ready for pick up.
