From the Introduction: ? Here are a few tales from a wonderful realm of enchantment, a realm of Oriental magic wherein almost anything is likely to happen. You can never tell what will come about next and, that is why the tales are so full of interest. The first thing you know you suddenly see magic ships, or valleys of diamonds, or palaces rise out of the desert, or princes change into beasts. And the fine part of it all is that you can go on to another story just as good as was the last one. Of course in order to do so more than two dozen times as in this book of tales, you will need to have a ponderous book containing all of the tales. Such a book used to go by the name of ?Tales of a Thousand Nights and One Night? but is now generally called ?Arabian Nights? Entertainments.? And it is a fascinating collection of tales, as the choice ones printed in this volume will lead you to believe.
