PROTECTING YOU AGAINST IN-TRANSIT DAMAGE:  I will purchase whatever level of "protective coverage" is necessary to assure that if the item is damaged in shipping you will receive, from UPS, the same amount that you paid for the item, PLUS shipping.

ACTUAL SHIPPING COST: eBay UNDER-estimates UPS charges by much as 25% when it displays a Zip-code-based amount.  That is, the system knows my Zip code and if a browsing buyer has made a purchase on eBay the system knows their Zip code.  The flaw, in part, is due to failure to consider the volume (cubic-feet)-trigger which charges for 40 lbs. when the package weighs much less -- if it exceeds 3 cubic feet -- AND continues to rise based on size, not weight.  And now the recent "transportation fee" (for the higher cost of gas) so there is either a nasty surprise to the buyer when I advise them of the ACTUAL shipping cost after having been told by UPS, by sending them a second invoice, or I have to “eat” the difference.  So, whatever the cost, I will cover it.

Now, finally, onto the description and my comments about the item in which you have expressed an interest:

MONSTER Model PLN 1000

This is NOT intended to be USED as a AC line power-conditioner!  The purpose of it is to help SELL power-conditioners. So it is a testing and selling tool for high-end audio and video retailers; Home Theater sales of installation companies; sound contractors... you get the idea. When what a power-conditioner does can be easily demonstrated -- the difference between “dirty” power and ”clean“ power from the same source -- a prospect will probably be converted to a buyer.

Placed prominently in your store, taken to the site of a home theater installation, or a sound-reinforcement or DJ system venue, your sale of line-conditions should increase exponentially and with only a few sales the profit will have paid for the tester. After that, your profit is all “gravy.”

This is how it works: AC power comes from two samples of the same source (there are TWO power cords).  The power from one is routed directly to the testing/measurement section with NO filtering applied to it. The other is routed through a high-quality EMI and RFI filter network and THEN to the testing/measurement section.  The filtering circuit design and components are the same that Monster uses in the power line-conditioning products that they manufacture. “Getting a read” between the two is determined by the square buttons on the front panel. The difference between unfiltered and filtered power is are expressed as both a sound and a number on a digital meter.  The details are:

1. A digital meter with large, bright, red, digits.  It displays the percentage of noise in the power coming into the unit; that is, BEFORE being filtered.  With the push of a button it shows the percentage of noise remains AFTER it has been filtered by the noise-reduction circuitry that is integrated into the tester.

2. A speaker so you can hear a “hetrodyned” sample of the power; that is, that portion of the AC power that contains things that can distort sound and picture and damage electronic parts but are of frequencies that above 20,000 Hz, generally considered the limit of human hearing, are reduced in frequency by a circuit that divides the frequencies until the result is something a human can hear.  It is then sent to an amplifier, then to a speaker mounted on the front panel.  So you can not, for example, hear electromagnetic interference frequencies, but you WILL hear noise in proportion to those frequencies.

MY HISTORY WITH THE DEVICE:

For many years I owned an audio store and, later, a computer hardware company..  I tried to sell a surge-protector -- first generation of protection -- to every person who bought a system.  I did the same when I was in the computer business.  As the technology evolved, the topic expanded to “line-conditioning” which “cleans” the AC coming from the wall which is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than mere surge-protection.

THE TECHNOLOGY EVOLVED. The device demonstrates the effect of FILTERING THE POWER even though there is surge-suppression technology INCLUDED in the circuitry of the device that would be sold to an end-user.  So the technology represented by this item is that of FILTERING THE POWER, NOT ONLY the surge-shunting technology.

I used this device to sell HUNDREDS of power conditioners to people who were initially non-believers.” I would demo the difference in my audio or computer store and if the customer was not convinced I would offer it to them to take home over night, getting a deposit, or holding a credit card; or, sometimes, their driver’s license.  After using it to test the power in THEIR home or business, virtually 100% of them bought a power-line conditioner whether made by Monster or another high-quality, reliable, equivalent product. .  If this can make you about 15 sales than you would not have otherwise made, you will break-even then start making a LOT more money from selling power conditioners than you ever did before.  That is, your profit from the first few, otherwise unexpected, sales will pay for the tester.  After that, the profit from unexpected future sales will be "gravy."
Given the utility, complexity, and condition of this very rare, highly-sophisticated, beautifully-built, and VERY useful item is a steal at $200, plus actual shopping cost.

PACKING:  It will packed in a box much larger than itself, and “float” in at least six-inches of packing material, whether it is plastic “worms,” professional packing paper, or bubble-wrap...whatever I can find... around all sides.  And because United Parcel Service applies on $100 to each parcel it handles I will pay for in-sur-an-ce at $ 150 additonal.
