Up for auction today are these two very fine pieces of beautiful antique porcelain. They picture a couple that seem to be sad perhaps a forbidden love he seems to be of a higher class than hers he is dressed in much finer clothing she looks to be a peasant girl or worker she has her hand up so as not even to look at him or they could just be mad at each other!I am not able to say for sure if these statues are from English Chelsea Porcelain Works or the later French Samson reproductions. One clue to identify them as Chelsea was that the gold anchor should not be over 1/4'inches long. The anchors on these pieces is smaller measuring at 3/16"of a inch.So if they are from the Chelsea company this mark dates them to 1756-1769 if they are from Samson they would date to the late 1800's.Regardless even the reproductions are very well done and are considered very collectable too! They are both 4"1/2 inches high and in overall excellent condition considering their age. Both figurines have a chip to the leaves the lady's chip is on the back of the center leaf picture #8 shows it clearly. The gentlemen's chip is on the top of the leaf right of center that can be seen on the last picture. They stand on a rococo baroque styled bases and the leaves and flowers have a realistic 3d affect.I did a lot of researching and I did not see another pair like these so maybe they are rare pair?If you have any questions please ask!Payment to be made within 3 days of auction close. No checks please.
