Like the USA Network's Monk, Psych combines crime-solving with comedy. Shawn Spencer (writer/actor James Roday, Miss Match) and Burton "Gus" Guster (The West Wing's Dulé Hill) have been friends since the 1980s. Aside from their divergent styles--walking encyclopedia Gus plays straight man to Shawn's hyper-observant goofball--the former passes himself off as a psychic. Together, they work with the Santa Barbara Police Department, represented by Chief Karen Vick (Kirsten Nelson) and detectives Juliet "Jules" O'Hara (Maggie Lawson) and Carl "Lassie" Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), their tightly-wound nemesis. The second season allows the duo to dig deeper into their pop-culture past. As before, every episode begins with a childhood incident that anticipates the case to come, most involving Shawn’s dad, Henry (L.A. Law’s Corbin Bernsen), a hard-nosed ex-cop. "American Duos," for instance, spoofs American Idol with Tim Curry as a snide judge and Gina Gershon as his spaced-out colleague, while "65 Million Years Off" recalls Jurassic Park when a paleontologist turns up dead. Other guests include Kerry Washington as a figure from Gus's past ("There's Something About Mira") and Phylicia Rashad and Ernie Hudson as Gus's parents, from whom he inherited his superior sense of smell ("Gus' Dad May Have Killed an Old Guy").

Season 3:

As Psych's second year drew to a close, Gus (Dulé Hill) had become a pharmaceutical rep and Shawn (James Roday) welcomed his long-lost mother, Madeleine (Cybill Shepherd), back to town. In all other respects, the show remains the same. Gus just has two jobs instead of one, and the detecting continues. Later, Shawn reconnects with his treasure-hunting Uncle Jack (Steven Weber) and former flame Abigail (Rachael Leigh Cook), who seems likely to return in the future. The same goes for Chief Vick's sister, Coast Guard Commander Dunlap (Jane Lynch), who has eyes for the still-married Lassie (Timothy Omundson).

Other highlights include "Talk Derby to Me," in which Jules (Maggie Lawson) infiltrates a roller-derby team in order to catch some thieves, "Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing," in which Shawn and Gus race to protect their uptight colleague's good name, "Tuesday, the 17th," a surprisingly scary take-off on Friday the 13th, and "Murder?... Anyone?... Anyone?... Bueller?," a high school reunion episode filled with references to the generation-defining films of the late John Hughes. And just to keep the fan worship going, Ferris Bueller's Alan Ruck and The Breakfast Club's All Sheedy make guest appearances during the season.

Season 4:

·  Actors: James Roday, Dule Hill

·  Format: AC-3, Box set, Color, Dolby, DVD, Subtitled, Widescreen, NTSC

Psych offers the cable equivalent of comfort food. The show throws few curve balls--there's no need to revamp a winning formula--and Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) are always good company (granted, Roday remains a shameless mugger, but Hill provides the perfect foil). Among their escapades in year 4, the duo travels to Canada to catch a thief (Cary Elwes), to the land of the rich to solve a murder (with Christine Baranski as the widow), and to the Old West to stop a vandal (with James Brolin as the sheriff).

As usual, the scary episodes stand out in the Scooby Doo-like way they blend humor with horror. This year, the detectives join forces with a priest (Ray Wise, well cast after his turn as Satan on Reaper), a self-described werewolf (Josh Malina), and their old nemesis Yang (Ally Sheedy), inspiring riffs on The Exorcist, Psycho, and other genre classics. They also have fun with music-themed stories, such as a case that works in some R&B stylings from Roday, Hill, Jaleel White, and SNL's Kenan Thompson. Plus, Boyz II Men gives the theme song some new jack swing (another episode gives it a Bollywood twist).

Season 5:

·  Actors: James Roday, Dulé Hill, Timothy Omundson, Corbin Bernsen

·  Format: AC-3, Box set, Color, Dolby, DVD, Subtitled, Widescreen, NTSC

·  Language: English

·  Subtitles: English

·  Region: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only. Read more about DVD formats.)

·  Aspect Ratio: 1.77:1

·  Number of discs: 4

·  Rated: NR (Not Rated)

·  Studio: Universal Studios

·  DVD Release Date: May 31, 2011

With his uptight father (Corbin Bernsen) in charge of the Santa Barbara Police Department's consultants, incredibly charming and talented phony psychic Shawn (James Roday) must now work extra hard to land new investigation gigs for him and his trusty partner Gus (Dulé Hill). Season 5 of this quirky crime show finds the private detectives searching for a kidnap victim, probing an alien abduction and infiltrating a street-racing gang.
