This American made to order vacuum assisted filter will help immensely, in your quest to refine gold. I use it during all the steps, from the nitric acid bath to filter out the silver, to the Aqua Regia process to filter out the gold. Acids have no affect on this PVC product. But I do recommend you use an acid resistant filter paper, especially when filtering a hot acid. Otherwise what I experienced is any chemicals in the filter paper could react negatively, what I call plasticized(the filter paper got hard or disintegrated). High quality coffee filters do work good.
You'll see in the video I'm filtering Aqua Regia which is saturated with impurities. The end result is clean Aqua Regia which was tested with Stannous Chloride positive for gold. Then I neutralized the AR and precipitated the gold, and filtered again to obtain the brown gold powder. For your knowledge, when you filter anything this fine be patient, it does take some time. While I was filtering I put a cover on top of the filter, that helped speed up the process a bit.
This filter is pretty much indestructable except for one weakness radiant heat. Do not use a hair drier or heat gun to dry the filtered product in the filter bowl. The PVC instantly warps, distorts and ultimately destroys the filter housing.
Wear goggles that cover your eye's entirely because the acid fumes can blind you. I know wearing gloves is a bummer, but I highly recommend wearing butyl gloves so your hands don't turn yellow and get all dry and burned and irritated. An acid resistant schmock or wind breaker will prevent you from destroying your cloths. You don't even have to spill any acid on them the fumes will dissolve them without you even knowing it. Last but not least, when working with acids make sure you are in a well ventilated area and wear an air respirator. Save yourself some mistakes,take my advise.
