Up for sale is a beautiful piece of vintage art pottery. This pot was made by the Weller Pottery Co. It is in the "Jap Birdimal" line, created by Fredrick Hurten Rhead. Rhead worked at Weller from 1903-1904. This pitcher is done is a motif that is found on many Rhead pieces, a stylized floral motif, similar to the tree motif. It is decorated with the squeeze bag technique. The glaze is absolutely stunning, a vivid color of blue. The coffee pot measures approximately 10 inches high and 9 inches wide. It is signed on the base, "Rhead" and something else which has faded. To the left of the handle, it is signed "LP" for Lizzie Perone. It is in overall great condition with the exception of the spout and lid. The spout has a considerable chip. The lid also has a considerable chunk missing. It is also cracked and amateurishly glued back together. The body of the coffee pot is excellent and still a magnificent work of art. With some professional restoration, you could have a museum worthy piece. These large coffee pots are almost never seen. What a scarce piece and important to early Weller history. This would make a fantastic addition to your collection.
