Hand appliqued and embroidered dog and bunny off to bed crib cover and pillow. Expertly stitched, applique and embroidery in very good condition! No spots/stains. No missing/worn stitches. The left side section has several small holes--caught in crib springs?? The ruffled edge pillow cover is open on both ends. The pillow cover measures 12 x 16 with the ruffle of 2". On the pillow the little candle holding dog is 8" high. He has satin stitched eyes, nose, tongue, buttons and candle. An embroidery floss tassel is attached to his cross stitch embellished nightcap. The dog is repeated on the coverlet and is 11" high. The yawning little bunny has satin stitched eyes, mouth, nose and buttons and is 13" high. Measures 52 wide x 72 - center piece is 36" x 72 with side pieces 8" x 72. The red and white striped cotton is embellished with white bias binding covering the seams on the 2 long side seams.
No company markings. This crib set would have been purchased as a stamped kit with the design stamped on the ready made red/white striped coverlet and on the patches for the applique. See last image for the back of the puppy.

Tinted and/or embroidered pillows, crib covers and other linens were very popular during the 1900's-1950's. The items were purchased as stamped/tinted pieces or in kits with floss and instructions and were then embroidered by the purchaser.
Vogue Needlework, selling Vogue Art Needlecrafts can be dated to around 1930. B. Kugel Company acquired Vogue Needlework in the 40's and items were sold under both Vogart and Vogue Needlecraft. Vogart/Vogue Needlecraft designed for many of the art needlework companies. S. S. Kresge's, Five and Dime Stores changed name to KMart in 1977( older catalogs show pillows sold with JBK marking). JBK Trade Mark can be found on 1920's -1930's linens and Sport Pillows; Woolworth's (Jerglo); S. H. Kress & Co., Montgomery Ward's, and G.C. Murphy Co. There were companies designing/selling Art Needlework before Vogart: Royal Society brand name for H. E. Verran Co.(1912-1928 in 1929-1931 the Frampton Co. is used in place of the H. E. Verran Co.), Pacific, Bucilla (Bernhard Ulmann Co.), Brainerd Silk, Richardson's Silk, T.B.C (T. Buettner & Co.Wholesale Linens and Art Needlework, 1920's), Frederick Herrschner Co. (This company was established in 1899 and is still in business today), Art Novelties by Gomory Inc. (New York 1920's-1930's; logo features a G inside a diamond shape), Artamo, Woman's World, and Le Merite (The American Import Co. of San Francisco). KB Inc. markings are for the Kemp and Beatley Inc. of New York.

(ATCO), Virginia Snow Studio, Harriet Harper Studio, Grandmother's Art Needlework (W. L. M. Clark Co.), Blackstone Art Emb Co., Semco; an Australian company producing embroidery needlework items since 1907 recently merged with Brandcorp, Lorraine Needlework, Emma Louise Art Studio, a 1930's New York company: Grayona Needlecraft and F. A. Wurzburg's Co.--an early 1900's needlecraft novelties company, Wm. H. Molter Co. Chicago; producers of Busy Hour original needlework creations .
Vintage linens with the N. R. A. -- National Recovery Administration established in 1933 -- stampings are dated 1933-1935. N. R. A. was part of FDR's New Deal to set codes of fair competition. Declared unconstitutional in 1935. Businesses that supported the N. R. A. put the symbol in their shop windows, on their products and packages.
