Album Notes Also available as part of the STREET JAMS: ELECTRIC FUNK, PARTS 1-4 boxed set on Rhino (72062).Producers: Steve Yano, Juice "The Electric Wire", Ron Dean Miller, "Pretty" Tony Butler, Greg Broussard.Compilation producers: Steve Yano, Juice "The Electric Wire."Includes liner notes by Sean Ross.Street Jams: Electric Funk, Vol. 3 is another terrific collection of old-school hip-hop and electro-funk from the early '80s, containing 12 tracks, almost all in their original 12" mixes. Only a handful of these songs, such as Grandmaster Flash's "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)," were big hits, but there are a number of songs that became well-known as samples and scratches, including Nuance's "Take a Chance," SoulSonic Force's "Looking for the Perfect Beat," Free Style's "The Party Has Begun," L.A. Dream Team's "Calling on the Dream Team," Wreckin' Cru's "Surgery" and Egyptian Lover's "Dubb Girls." No other compilation of early-'80s electro-funk and hip-hop remixes comes close to matching the quality of Street Jams, and this is another great addition to the series. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Editorial Reviews Vibe (19940201) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
