This listing is for a quantity of 3 Schottky Diodes made by Hy Electronic Corp. These diodes have a reverse voltage rating of -30 to 100 volts and a forward current rating of 10 Amperes.
This diode is required to prevent reverse current flow in solar and wind turbine power systems. If your system stops generating power or a component becomes damaged or less effective, your storage (batteries) can empty back into your solar panel(s) or wind turbine(s). These diodes should be sufficient for systems that generate between 1 and 45 volts and up to 8 Amperes. These are not a replacement for fuses. Follow your local electrical code for safety.
A Schottky diode is a special type of diode that has a very low forward-voltage drop. When current flows through a diode, there is a voltage drop. A normal silicon diode produces a voltage drop of between 0.6 and 1.7 volts but a Schottky diode produces a voltage drop of between about 0.15 and 0.45 volts. This lower voltage drop is the better choice for any solar panel or wind application because there is less power lost in the circuit before the battery bank. Think of this diode as a check valve that keeps the energy to flowing to your battery storage.
