In the 1930's,, 1940's, and 1950's one of the most fun things ever about the fifrst day of school was your new pencil box! It was so much fun to pick one out, and the more drawers and things inside, the better. They were cheaply constructed from cardboard, so they didn't usually last long, but they were so much fun to get. This one is made from "wood" grain paper, with a gold enbossed deisgn of George Washington on the cover. There is a bit of white paint on the cover on the left side, visible in the photo, and the gilt has faded. The box has a weak back hinge, and a missing loop on one of the drawers. The flaws are really not significant! The drawers are firm, and the interior geometric color of the paper covering is excellent. The box still has it's original little writing tablet, pen, wooden ruler, tin bank, crayons and metal piece used to attach to your pencil so you can make circles (I can't remember what it is called). The box and items date to the early 1940's, and it is really in remarkable condition, for it's age. The box measures 9 1/4" x 4" x 2".

I try and recycle packaging materials as much as I can. I hate adding more garbage to the environment; if you receive a box from me that has been used before, I am "recycling". I will make sure it's sturdy, and your item will arrive in good condition, but the box may not be pretty (or it might be - I have had to buy boxes, as well). Feel free to pass it along, and ship it again! I try to keep my shipping costs as low as possible. I don't charge for my time, the materials, or in most cases, the shipping! All my packages are tracked. If you don't receive your item or it arrives broken, I will refund your money, including any shipping charges. |
