Here is a charming little refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. This trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood, ash or oak outer slat boards, and the curved part of the dome top is made with early ply. Just like people remove the canvas from the flat top trunks to refinish the wood underneath, we have removed some of the metal to finish the wood underneath on this trunk. We finished the wood with three coats if polyurethane by Minwax to preserve it. There is some contrast in color of the wood from the dome top in comparison to the base wood. The top is a little darker. There are some typical older distress marks on the wood which include some nicks and dings in various places. These distress marks or beauty marks are quite common on most all of the trunks that we refinish. Here are the trunk's measurements: from left to right across the front is 28 inches, from floor to top is approximately 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 16 1/4 inches. The metal parts on this trunk have been hand painted in black and gold leaf since they are not made of brass. It is very seldom that you will find American made trunks with all brass hardware. This beautiful dome top had the lock missing when we received it, so we have installed an early lock off of a parts trunk which does work properly since we have matched up a key. What a great gift this little dome top could make for someone special within your life who like collecting refinished antique furniture pieces. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the inside, you will find that we have made a nice divided tray for this trunk. It rests at the top edge where the original one once did. Use this tray to sort items in, then lift it up and place larger belongings inside the belly of the trunk. We removed the interior paper lining since it was worn out looking and have given the tray and interior wood two coats of polyurethane. A nice picture of a Victorian girl posing has been added to the underside of the top. For the age of this trunk, the interior is in pretty clean condition and it does have some typical small stress cracks running along the bottom of the interior which is quite common. Please read some of our extensive positive feedback section. Here, you can gain confidence in purchasing one of our trunks by reading our great customers' wonderful comments about the trunks they have purchased from us over the past 11 or 12 years. We do have well over a thousand satisfied customers. We really do recommend that you buy trunks from experienced sellers and refinishers like ourselves and maybe that would be people with hundreds or thousands of positive feedbacks regarding trunk sales. We always try to replace and repair the things that need to be done on these trunks to make them complete. We have developed a nice style of refinishing which is proven. The exterior bottom of this trunk has normal wear. This trunk still has the metal casters at the bottom and we have given the bottom a coat of polyurethane to make the trunk a little bit cleaner overall. This trunk was quite a basket case when we received it and it has turned out to look pretty decent. We hope someone will appreciate our time and effort that has been put into this trunk. It does have some typical imperfections since it is not new, but that is what makes these trunks unique in appearance. We sold around 16 or more trunks in December, most of which were given as gifts and we hope some people will have some money left over to purchase some of these trunks in 2012. Thank you very much and may the new owner enjoy this charming American made dome top for many years into the future. If you have any questions,
