signed LIETZKE handbuilt museum quality porcelain vase handpainted modernist

Description

Listed for sale is this exceptional museum quality porcelain vase signed Lietzke.  It is the last Lietzke pottery work from my collection.  I acquired this vase years ago at Wolf's Auction House in Cleveland.  As provenance I will include the Wolf's Auction lot number label that came with piece. My acquisition price then was one of the highest at the time for a Lietzke work. The catalogue, as I recall, listed this as a cubist inspired work.  Vase stands 9" high with a top diameter of 5 1/4". It shows interesting and challenging handbuilt construction. Porcelain work is in very good condition with exception of what may have been a 1/2" long glaze fault crack or slit. See  photo five-middle area along seam.  This work is signed in three places and is the creation of  the husband and wife team of Luke (Lucille) and Rolland Lietzke produced a strikingly original body of ceramic ware during the middle decades of the 20th centuryLietzkes produced a substantial body of art pottery--both thrown and hand-built slab vessels. Lietzke ware has strong affinities with other 50s, 60s and 70s ceramic artists including Eva Zeisel and Russel Wright. The  Apart from her cooperative work with Rolland, Luke Lietzke worked as an interior designer and created interesting pieces of clay jewelry which she signed with her first name. Luke and Rolland Lietzke lived and worked in Mogadore, Ohio where, in addition to their pottery vessels, they created ceramic accessories and architectural pieces including mosaic murals, fountains, ceramic walls, garden lighting units and ceramic furniture. Both artists were mentioned regularly in Ceramics Monthly and Craft Horizons magazines throughout the 1960s and 1970s.  Classic midcentury. A gorgeous handmade Porcelain vase. Buyer to pay $18 shipping.
