ca. late 1950s 8x10 b&w glossy photo of 20th century jazz great DUKE ELLINGTON, a native of Washington DC or D.C. (I'm listing many original DUKE ELLINGTON promotional photos tonight as well as a wonderful and obscure autographed 1960s DUKE ELLINGTON program - also autographed by HARRY CARNEY and one of Duke's last vocalists, Toney or Tony Watkins.)
In this photo, Ellington is shown in his once iconic checkered or checked coat and wearing a huge smile :-)
According to the caption in the bottom margin of this photo, it was probably issued by his booking agent, Associated Booking Corp., Joseph G. Glaser president.
A joyous photo portrait of jazz great ELLINGTON. I got to see him in person at VMI, Lexington Virginia in 1965.
This is a REAL photo (totally original) - not a halftone and certainly NOT a computer copy. From the estate of a man who booked [mostly] black entertainment in the South during the 1940s-early 1970s. He had extra originals of a VERY FEW of the photos.
There are a very few small spots of white or clear glue on the blank verso of the photo. NOT STICKY AT ALL. When the photo was removed from whatever it was glued to - probably poster paper - a very few MINOR abrasions were left. That being said, there is a ¼ inch tear in the rh margin at the lower right hand corner of the photo; further there is a ½ inch tear in the bottom margin - just barely to the left of the "A" in the word "Associated." THE 2 TEARS DO NOT ENTER THE IMAGE AREA AT ALL!
VERY GOOD

NOTE: some of my scans may have what appear to be scratches and/or pencil scribbles but in actuality those are scratches on the glass bed of my scanner. Please see the scan of the plain green sheet of paper in order to identify them (though they may appear in the scans pointed or oriented differently than they are on the green paper).
