I love this series. The facts of development for each age are presented clearly and with compassion for the child. This particular book has a great sense of humor about it all.

I have not yet read this title, as I just received it. However, I have read the author's book on Two's, Three's and Four year olds. As a mother I read as many parenting books as I have time for, feeling that as my children are growing, I should be too. These books are more along the lines of observation of development. I find them interesting. I will continue to purchase them as my children grow.
The helpful information about how the child develops is invaluable. What the child is able to do not do, so depends on their age.

What happens AFTER the toddler years? A couple years ago, I was looking for anything to help me with my 4 year old, and I came across these books by Louise Bates Ames. It's a small enough book to read in 1-2 nights, but it does help with what you should expect in development, attitudes, personalities, & problems that you may have in the year with your child. I recommend the entire series... year by year. (I pick it up by her birthday- IT HELPS WITH THE BIRTHDAY PARTIES TOO)
You just can't go wrong reading this series of child development books. They provide a brief overview of what to expect. Some might say the views are old fashioned but I find that refreshing and am able to use my judgement to determine what applies to my child.
