This is a beautifully framed original photogravure print of a late 19th cent. painting titled "The Question" by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. The subject is of a beautiful young lady with a pensive look and a hopeful, admiring young suitor with flowers, eager to win her affections. This is a beautiful and playful work of art that belongs on your wall. Printed in England and dated 1907, the print is from a limited collection of 24 photogravure prints of world famous pictures, titled "The Grosvenor Prints" published by Charles Letts & Co, Diarists & Art Publishers, London which amazingly enough is still in business after 200 years. I was fortunate to find this rare set of prints, well preserved and in mint condition in its original folios in between the original tissue paper. The paper description in the photo was taken from this folio and placed on the backside of the print. Known for its high quality and richness, photogravure was the best quality photo-mechanical print type used for both original fine art prints and photo-reproduction of works from other media such as painting. It has been professionally framed using the best quality materials, including acid free backing and matting as well as museum glass for glare-free visual clarity and resistance to fading, so that your investment is protected for generations.


Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836 – 1912) was one of the most renowned painters of late nineteenth-century Britain. A classical-subject painter, he became famous for his depictions of the luxury and decadence of the Roman Empire, with languorous figures set in fabulous marbled interiors or against a backdrop of dazzling blue Mediterranean sea and sky. The overall measurements of the frame is 23" L x 14 - 1/2" H and the print measurements are 14-1/2" W x 6" H.
