This is a wonderful RARE Yamaha AE1200S in excellent shape. These were produced in the 80's and this S model was the most desirable since it has a carved solid spruce top rather than a laminate top like the AE1200. I've done my absolute best to both describe and present this AE1200S as accurately as possible. Please allow the over 40 photographs to load. If you've trouble loading them you can access the photo's here at my photo album:
I've heard this model referred to as the ''law suit'' model for its similarity to a Gibson Super 400 or L5 CES and the model gained some fame via the group U2. I previously owned a L5 CES and in many aspects the quality of the AE1200S is better. Its tone is phenomenal (with roundwound strings for blues, pop fusion or flatwound strings for jazz - bebop).

These are rare and even rarer still to find one in such excellent shape. The neck is true and has superb playability. Recently setup with fresh strings by my local well reknown luthier.
THE AE1200S features:
A SOLID CARVED SPRUCE TOP
A FLOATING TUNE-O-MATIC BRIDGE over an EBONY BASE
DOUBLE WHITE BINDING, AND A SUNBURST FINISH
PREMIUM DELUXE CASE
The guitar was upgraded by the previous owner by:
REPLACING THE ORIGINAL YAMAHA PICKUPS WITH TWO GIBSON 57 CLASSIC HUMBUCKING PICKUPS AND NEW GIBSON WIRING.
THE DATES NOTED ON THE TWO SUPPLIED RECEIPTS WHEN THE GIBSON 57 CLASSIC PICKUPS WERE INSTALLED ARE 2-14-11 AND 1-18-10. THE COIL SPLIT FEATURE WAS DISABLED AS A RESULT OF THE PICKUP UPGRADE. ADDITIONALLY ONE OF THE ORIGINAL PICKUPS COMES WITH THIS SELL. (see case pic w/ receipts)
THE ORIGINAL YAMAHA TUNERS WERE REPLACED WITH GROVER IMPERIAL TUNERS. THIS GUITAR IS NOW VERY SIMILAR TO A HIGH END GIBSON HOLLOWBODY. THE GUITAR COMES WITH AN EXCELLENT DELUXE HARDSHELL CASE.
Receipts are included from the previous parts and performance upgrades (see pics). Also provided is the original nitro celluose tortoise pick guard which I removed from the guitar due to its age. All vintage nitro pick guards must eventually be removed and replaced to prevent them from damaging the guitar as they begin to break down. I'd intended to have a new one created by my local luther but simply placed a temporary guard on the guitar.
This guitar to the best of my knowledge has no performance or mechanical issues. I've recently acquired a Guild Artist Award and can't keep everything so I've chosen to sell both of my AE1200S guitars in separate auctions. This auction is ONLY for the AE1200S in Sunburst.
These are fairly rare, and when they appear for sale they do so in varied condition. The finish on this guitar is very clean with no obvious dents or nicks, but with some natural hazing (not finish checking) to the clear lacquer in certain areas of the guitar. I can't locate a single finish check or crack on this guitar. It has no dings or dents I can find on the top or sides of the guitar. The back on the upper right in the dark shaded area 4 inches from the right edge has one 1/2 inch horizontal minor indentation that's not showing up on camera.
I'd rate this guitar a solid 9.5 in playability and an 8.5 in appearance. I rate extremely conservatively.
I've observed these sell in varying condition from $1k to $1.7k used on eBay. This guitar is worth adding to your collection and is a real players guitar that's never been gigged.
I'm not a dealer, therefore all sales are final. Please ask any questions before bidding. INTERNATIONAL buyers please contact seller BEFORE bidding. No zero feedback bidders without contacting seller in advance. Thank you and good luck!
