Item specifics

Publisher: Marvel ComicsCharacter(s)/ Title: X-Men
Issue Number: 1Genre: Superheroes
Date of Issue (MM/YYYY): 09/1963Features: First Print

The X-MEN #1 (Marvel) from September 1963:
ORIGIN and 1st APP of The X-MEN....Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman and Marvel Girl!
Also, 1st appearance of Professor X and Magneto!

One of Lee/Kirby's finest super-hero creations from the early 1960s!

VG+ (4.5) copy with no significant defects.
A small chip out of the r/h bottom of the front cover, little more than an eighth of an inch, stops this book from grading higher....and, although it's possibly a VG/F(5) anyway, I'm being conservative.
There's also a tiny chip at the top, above 'Strangest', but that's not really visible, and otherwise there's no 'Marvel chipping' as such.
There is nothing else missing in what is a clean, supple and flat, fairly glossy (good ink reflectivity), tight, unmarked and securely stapled book.
Lies nicely flat, with complete spine (no roll) and clean staples.
The interior pages too are fairly sharp, clean, and mostly off-white to cream.
An excellent mid-range copy.

According to Overstreet 2010, this hugely KEY top 10 Silver Age book (a valued member of the 'Overstreet Hall of Fame', and ranked 6th of ANY comic printed between 1955 to the present) is worth approx £$2000 in VG+ (and even more when slabbed)
However, prices vary widely on this book (I've seen really poor examples go for $2500, and even more, in the States, and the latest record for a Near Mint version is $200,000....yes, $200k for this comic....the sort of price Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27 were going for 10 years back; and they are now fetching up two million dollars each).
The fact is that you really can't lose out on these types of  'fun' but increasingly rare, and getting rarer, investments.  So, as I'm starting low, you could purchase a relative 'bargain' and a piece of genuine comic history (which will only increase in value) if you can afford it today.

NOTE that the postal options I have submitted, within the UK and to abroad (see all details) are simply there to increase the exposure of this book to a worldwide audience.  I've had to put down these postal options in order to display this on worldwide eBay sites.
Please see below (near the bottom of this listing), however, regarding how I wish for you to pay and arrange collection yourself or through your own courier.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
A gentleman from Spain bid on eBay for this item, but we disagreed on delivery terms, so I had to cancel his bid.  To be fair to him, maybe I was not totally clear on how I wanted this deal to be concluded, and it DOES differ from ALL of my other auction items.  Subsequently another UK eBayer wanted to buy it, but again couldn't arrange the travel from the other side of London to view/purchase this important and worthwhile investment.
I've also had idiots from around the world bidding for this, with no intention of paying, let alone following my procedures on this item.  Please don't be one of them, as it only affects your time and energy, plus resulting in an adverse report to eBay.

Before considering a bid based on the terms below, please compare this KEY COPY with similar copies in similar grades being sold on eBay worldwide, as well as through dealerships, collectors, conventions, internet stores and other internet or postal auction sites etc., as I am confident I can provide the best and most cost effective transaction/investment for you.
ALSO PLEASE SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS.

Grading
Note:
Unless otherwise stated above in the description ....
all comics are complete and free of major defects relating to:
large rips/tears, pieces missing (including small bits out, right up to coupon and/or page removal), heavy marks and stains, heavy creasing, bad spine splits, repairs or restoration, tape, glue and so on.
And, again unless it is mentioned in the above description, all comics are generally:
structurally solid/tight, flat, supple, securely on staple(s) with attached covers and firm complete spines, and with tight intact clean o/w or creamy pages.

Degrees of wear and minimal defects are naturally to be expected in accordance with the age and grade, but there will be no nasty surprises!

Grading generally follows professional lines from Poor (0.5) to Mint (10).
For example.....Fair/FR (1), Good/G (2), Very Good/VG(4), Fine/F (6), Very Fine/VF (8), and Near Mint/NM (9.4)
I use CGC and Overstreet grading criteria as strictly as possible, and based on the experience I have had with both dealers and collectors over many years, whilst amassing my collection.

OK....PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING BEFORE BIDDING:

Discuss payment proposals with me if successful.  Do not immediately pay via Paypal as I do not wish to use Paypal for anything over £500!

UK bidders:  I require a pick-up or collection only for this book.
You can bid with confidence, based on my description and photo, but to ensure total satisfaction I would advise that you see this book beforehand (ie before making any bid!).
If you cannot arrange that, but happen to bid and win, you must still arrange your own secure collection...via courier or in person.
This is cheaper than you think, and it also means I won't have the concern of delivering it to you....which you would have to pay for also.
I've only had one 'return' in 5 years but, with such a high value item, if you arrange collection by a third party, and then change your mind for whatever reason, you do have the right to a full refund if returned to me in exactly the same condition within 7 days.  But that is another reason why, for both our benefits, you should see it first.

International bidders:  Again I require a pick-up by your own courier company or contact (easily arranged at your end and no more expensive than the way I would send it you) in order to guarantee safe and insured delivery to you.
I've only had one problem with mail damage when sending abroad, and it was slight (an apparent cracked CGC casing), but for an expensive item like this, I'm taking no chances.  The item will be properly packaged and protected and signed for by your courier as being so ... then, once collected by your representative, any possible damage in transit will be fully insured by your own couriers.
Again, if you are unhappy for any reason with the comic, please return it securely and in the same condition by your own courier, to be signed for on arrival.  I will then reimburse you the full amount of your bid.

PLEASE NOTE that for ALL other items I'm selling (see my auctions) normal bidding, paypal, and mailing services apply within the UK and to abroad.

Shortly I will be listing the rest of my main comic book collection (email me for any 'wants') and check my feedback for grading and delivery satisfaction.....

Note that scans are as detailed and accurate as possible but may crop items while sometimes not displaying the impression 100% .
The scanned item, however, is the one I am selling (not some stock or random picture) but email me if you are not sure of the photo or my description.

NOTE:  for the value of American comics I use the more conservative but oldest, and most established, Overstreet Price Guide as a gauge against what old comics are worth.
However, practically all other comic price guides in America and Britain, and elsewhere, give higher values on many comics per grade, so you may wish to take that further into account when you look at my low starting bids.
I understand one guide places the Silver Age classic.. 'Showcase #22' (1st SA Green Lantern) ..in Good @ $1250.  Overstreet 2010 guides it @ $460...although allow for some increase with the 2011 Overstreet.
Best bet is to do what I suggest above, and check grades and prices on eBay internationally, before bidding with me.
