This beautiful clock was manufactured by the William L Gilbert Clock Company. Steel case, most likely manufactured either during WWI or prior to 1940 since it has a steel cage and not brass as most clocks (see photos). 8 day movement has recently been cleaned, oiled and adjusted. Some minor repairs were done as well, but I have misplaced my list of what was done. If you look close up, the center columns are missing (shows up more noticable with camera flash close up picture than in real life). Plain black pendulum. Basic case with no lion heads on the side as some older mantle clocks have. Clock is missing board in the back. If I can find one before this auction closes I will include it. Clock measures 16" X 10 1/2" X 5 3/4".

Movement stamped Wm L Gilbert Clock Co, Winsted Conn USA. Has 3 stampings: G, 18, and 307 (see close up photo).

On July 20,1934, a new firm known as the William L. Gilbert Clock Corporation was formed to succeed the earlier company. It was one of the few firms allowed to continue clockmaking during World War 11 because it was able to manufacture clocks without metal cases, having installed machinery in 1940 to produce cases from molded paper-maché.
