This book is very good for beginers, such as myself. I have never taken German before and I've learned a great deal from this book so far. It has interesting facts about the country, culture, and people. It has colorful pictures to help associate things with. The chapters have openings that describe the cultre and what the section is about, which is nice. The book also comes with a glossery of both English to German and German to English. The only problem that I can find is the way the verbs are set up and how to construct sentances. I think that that should be in the begining instead of further on in the book. Also, the author uses some words that are taken from English that are used in Germany, but these words are also in German and are spelled in German. However, this is a great book.
The emphasis on language immersion from the outset deserves praise; however, the text is sometimes confusing to new students who will be trying to figure out just what the basic instructions are asking them to do. A decent introduction to the language; the segueways into new sections and sub-chapters can certainly be improved for clarity.
