I bought this book for a class. It didn't look particularly interesting at first, but it is compelling. it's the account of the Cambodian genocide in the 1970's, a first-hand account by a survivor who was a little girl at the time. This true story is so sad. I had to put it down at certain parts, but had to go back to it. Her memory is remarkable. She puts faces on the victims of war, their families and feelings so vividly. It relates to current world conditions and could apply to any number of populations. Beautifully written. It made me cry. I recommend it.
