I needed a good 'hobby' soldering iron for my electronics project and after reading glowing reviews from a lot of electronics sites I decided on the Weller. The variable temp and changable tips along with the convenient solder station make this a great beginner or hobby soldering iron. I've used a lot of cheapo solder irons from that "electronics store" but they never seem to heat consistently or last very long. The 40-watt is very fast to heat up and solder multiple joints in a row. This is a great iron for doing automotive and guitar soldering projects. The provided chisel tip is great for heating up larger spots for soldering - like electronic shielding or automotive wire splice joints, both of which require consistant heat. Only one slight issue. The solder iron cradle holds the iron well but you realy have to make sure it's fully seated propery or it will slide out due to the weight from the cord. The cradle is set to about 45 deg from the factory. I solved this issue by bending the cradle up in more of verticle position to about 25-30 deg. Now I can confidently place the hot iron in the cradle without having to worry about it slipping. Very happy there is a built-in 'ON / OFF' switch with an indicator light. When I turn it off I want to make sure it's off from a quick glance.Read full review

I've used the Weller WTCPS 60 watt station for more than 20 years. It always served me well and solder joints were consistent. I can't say the same about the WLC100 soldering station. It takes a bit longer to heat up, and doesn't seem to regulate the temperature at all. You must manually adjust the pot on the base (start at 3) for the application at hand. Not recommended for delicate work, only basic soldering.

The Weller 40-Watt Soldering Station, Lightweight Pencil Iron, WLC100 is a great soldering station. I am a hobbyist and I don't do a lot of soldering, so having a good hot iron is a big help in keeping my joints clean and tidy. The spring holder is very convenient, as is the sponge right at your finger tips to clean your tip. My one issue with this soldering station is the iron plugs in on the left side, which puts the cord in the way of whatever you're trying to work on. You have to curl it back around behind the unit, which is not a big deal but still seems that would have been better placed in the back of the unit. Otherwise very pleased with the performance and the price. Would recommend.

Unit heats and performs soldering function well. I did have to grind out the holder for the (hot) iron because the neck of the iron would catch on the small hole meant to accept its circumference. After a little grinding / sanding, it works fine.

Well worth the price. My old soldering iron was great but sometimes got to hot for certain things. Now I can plug my old iron (which is smaller wattage) into the station and have regulated heat with the smaller iron. Is this a great country or what?
