Thank you all for checking in & keeping your eye on this project. I will attempt to update information on a weekly basis & updates will be posted at the bottom of this listing. Feel free to send questions & comments via the "ask seller a question" function. I'm as excited about this piece as the rest of our pinball treasure-hunting community! Thanks again for viewing & supporting this wonderful hobby. -Mike Read Carefully Before Bidding!Machine is DISASSEMBLED FOR RESTORATION. One of these sold in a frantic frenzy just recently - maybe you were part of the bidding war? Here we thought we had the only one of these! Okay, there might be two or three more on life-support or in a cocoon out there somewhere... These pics were not taken specifically for Ebay posting - more for show & tell when I found this rare piece & brought it to our facility. I didn't know what it's value was or really what to do with it. It worked & looked incredible - for its age. On the other hand, as 60+ year old coin-op equipment - it had plenty of wear, flaws, & needs. We refuse to be or become a "junk dealer," so with the ability & access to our superior artwork/paint/cabinet restoration "guy," (Felix of Flipperz Restorations) the choice was easy - make it as perfect as humanly possible! So that's what's going on with our Star Series. As we've noticed such interest in it's twin brother - pictures of the restoration process as it progresses will follow in this posting. Make no mistakes, restoration is a SLOW process & it may be Christmas before we've done all we can do. The "BUY IT NOW" price is legitimate & will expedite completion some, keeping in mind that we have other paying customers projects underway. Keep this posting on your "watching" list & check back regularly for progress updates & photos. This WILL be THE BEST remaining STAR SERIES when completed, & will be a MUST HAVE for one of the three guys out there who can afford to click "BUY IT NOW" without crying about a lousy $10K.
Delivery & set up will be free for this item within 50-mile radius of our Chads Ford, PA showroom - UPON COMPLETION. Delivery outside this radius available for reasonable fee - pay our gas, mileage, & time. Shipping available worldwide (per your arrangements.) - Hey you in Hong Kong, yeah you - this Star Series pitch & bat will be so incredible that it's worth paying for shipping to your door (over & above the $10K), or anywhere on this planet! Restoration updates: 4/7/2010 - Playfield is stripped & sitting in my garage. 92-year-old pop & veteran manufacturing engineer has agreed to work some magic to heal roughly 1/8" of twisting warp. I was tinkering with the idea of leaving it alone since minor warp isn't so much an issue in a pitch&bat as it would be in a regular pin. However! Top shelf restoration requires every reasonable effort, & some unreasonable efforts too. I imagine he will design some over-the-top over-manufactured jig & talk to it while I'm at work all day playing clean-a-pin. I will certainly try to catch him in the act & look forward to posting photos of the operation. Cabinet & backbox are empty, disassembled, & waiting for the next paint-shop run to Lebanon. All other parts are in line for glass beading &/or tumbling. I'll have the photos posted as I make time - normally with our workload, I wouldn't, but with such overwhelming interest in this piece, I have no choice but to award you for "watching." Check back weekly & don't forget to show my "Johnny M." some love too! -Mike 4/15/2010 - More "watchers" means I need to take time off from 300 other projects to pay Star Series some attention. Towards the end of last week, we dug out the playfield glass to procure an exact measurement for ordering a replacement. The original 61-year-old glass was badly scratched & beyond fragile. 61-year-old glass is downright dangerous as I found out while most carefully moving it - it broke! Ray wouldn't allow me to get upset as he explained that we were replacing it for just that reason. God forbid your least civilized guest sits his glass of brandy on your most coveted prize. Then his glass, half his arm, & a pint of brandy is all over the inside of your game! Thankfully, the broken area is not around the artwork. I can see handing our artist 15 pieces of broken glass to reproduce artwork from! I hope to have better luck with the backglass. I have no intentions on reproducing it! Just some very minor touch-up. You best believe I'll be somehow more careful with it... About the twisty warp to the playfield - pop advised that the best possible jig is the cabinet itself & that we will force it to behave upon reassembly by adding strategically placed playfield latches. Makes sense to me! Otherwise, as you can see, the machine is fully disassembled & ready to take a trip to paint & cabinet restoration. BTW, check out Felix's workmanship at www.bramileegraphics.com - he's the best! His website is pretty incredible as well. Note the container of greasy tarnished parts! If you love putting together difficult puzzles, come give me a hand sorting those out & putting them back in their happy spots after each individual screw & nut has been cleaned & polished. I've tackled worse! In the meantime, don't hesitate to contact us with questions or comments. We love to chat about these special projects. Also! Don't forget about Johnny - no quality seeking enthusiasts got into the act last week, so we relisted it at a more appropriate price. 4/19/2010 - Took the parts pile to paint today with no problems. I didn't even break any glass! Felix is excited about doing some "no budget," the very best of his capability work. Of course, he always does extremely nice work - but normally he tries to keep the labor costs from getting out of hand, which means shortcuts & "that's good enough" in some area or another. That's the way it works most of the time - not his fault, just the market. For example, our Johnny & ID4. Too much restoration labor scares away the fleas looking for sub-par junkers, just hoping somehow that they'll win the lottery or something. Well we are not desperate or starving, so the prices will remain fairly high & highly fair. This particular rare old piece is going to be a showcase for his work, for our work, & ultimately for one lucky person with the highest quality discretion & a healthy enough bank account to own it. Funny, I'll be that person for at least a few days! I always wanted to be the person with the highest quality discretion & the healthy bank account... Anyway, we discussed at length the details of each part's restoration with Felix & besides being completely up to the task, he has agreed to take several photos of the process. I'm excited! 5/5/2010 - Sorry to all you watchers who might need to re-find this listing. Some nice gentleman had some technical difficulties & his phone decided to "Buy It Now" - oops! Anyway, not much has changed since the last update - save our tumbler working all day & all night. Spoke with Felix today & he has started some of the preliminary paintwork duties. A photo or two should be coming very soon! I'm sure looking forward to that... In the meantime, just got a Corvette & a TZ for the store. Nice pieces if I must say so - but still need several hours of work each to measure up to our standards of deliver-ability. Spent the day changing the "LT-5" ramp in Corvette. Who knew that the aftermarket ramp would fit so... not very good - what a project! Thanks again for keeping up with the Star Series. Pictures of sorted, tumbled parts coming next week! :) 5/20/2010 - Oops, I promised pictures of "tumbled parts coming next week!"? Oh, been so busy with service work... Anyway, Felix is also busy with some 100+ projects we've sent his way. However, he has started on Star Series as evidenced by the two photos he sent today. Progress is good. No promises on next update this time - how about as soon as I find time!? :) 7/6/2010 - Photos arrived from our cabinet restoration shop. Looks great! Should be picking it up in the next week or so. Then it's reassembly time! Lots of fun. Will post process photos as it comes up on the finish line! Keep watching & feel free to comment via "Ask a question." 10/8/2010 - Sorry everybody about lack of updates. The machine, in its entirety, is back from paint-shop. Felix really outdid himself - beautiful, incredible work. If we weren't so inundated with a massive backlog of service work, I'd be in a rush to take some photos & get this special P&B finished. Unfortunately, until someone gives us a ($$$) reason to finish it, other ($$$) projects will continue to take precedence. Otherwise, know that we still care about this machine very much, & it WILL get done in the next "few" months. Thanks for staying with us on this. Anyone interested in expediting with a nice down payment? :) 12/25/2010 - Well when I said it may be "Christmas" before this get's finished, apparently I was being overly optimistic? Of course, I didn't say which Christmas! Business has been indescribably busy - that's my excuse. However, with the "buying season" behind us now, we have the luxury of choosing our priorities? It's time to work on this & it will be done... by next Christmas? As usual, a reasonable offer + down payment expedites. 2/26/2011 - Still busy, busy, busy. It is set up and assembly has begun - spare time assembly that is. I posted some new photos today on account of some poverty-stricken fellow insulting our piece as "nobody is going to pay big money for some cheap touched-up old playfield." Blah, blah, blah, "recession." I've said it before and I'll say it again. People who can afford the best, want the best. These are the same people who could give a hoot about a "recession." Top-end games simply are not for lower-middle-class folks. Sorry... By the way, check out the photos of the NEW playfield glass - hand painted reproduction of the old one. Wow!!!!!!!!!!! Consider some of the following "best in the world" arcade machines!
