! White Strawberry, Fragaria vesca, White Soul, Alpine . . .
Little
is known about this Alpine Strawberry from South American that has recently
been snatched back from the very brink of extinction. It is White with Scarlet
Red Pips and remarkably beautiful. Unlike its cousin, the Red Strawberry, it
has an amazing sweet fragrance and flavor similar to a very mild Pineapple and
is sweetly delicious. This wild plant has now been rescued and is also being
grown and promoted under another name ‘Pineberry’. These
hardy Perennials provide fresh Strawberries in small spaces and are very strong
growers and top producers with on-going blooms and delicious fruits. They are
Vigorous and Runner-less producing heavy crops all season. White Soul
Strawberries have been around for only a few years and unlike the Fragaria
Vesca Baron variety, the fruit is among the largest White fruit produced by
alpines. The
fruits are disease resistant and bird-proof. For some reason, the birds do not
go for this White Strawberry like they do the Red Strawberry even though it is
just as sweet Hardy
Zones 4 to 8; Height 6”; Width 12-18”; Full Sun to Part Shade; Constant moisture must be
maintained until germination Growing
Fragaria Vesca from Seed: Sow the Fragaria White Strawberry seeds indoors before your
first frost. Use quality seed starter mix, and small pots or starter trays. Sow
the Fragaria Vesca White seeds on the surface and gently press the seed into
the mix. Don’t bury them deep, just gently press as they need light to
germinate. Keep the soil damp but not wet, and seal the starter tray or pots
inside a plastic bag until after germination. When the Strawberry seedlings are
large enough to handle, transplant them into 3 inch pots, and grow them on in
cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. After all danger of
frost has passed, harden the young white Strawberry plants over a period of 7 -
10 days before planting outdoors in their permanent location. Thank You for Looking And,
