Feel good movie about a recently widowed man and his children who are trying to move on with their lives after the untimely death of his wife and childrens' mother. Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon), having always been somewhat of a immature adventurer, is now faced with "growing up" and making a life for his family. Seeking a fresh start, he buys a house with a zoo behind it! He has no idea of the costs, or even the related problems inherent in such a business, but with the help of an assortment of former zoo employees, proceeds to learn a lesson in, not only zoo ownership, but is life itself. This is a pretty good movie.
I bought this because, my wife and daughter saw it together, and I wanted to see with my teenaged son was away that weekend. This is the perfect family film, it has animals, a first kiss, a teenager in search of itself, a sassy small child and above all its based on a true story. The only thing this didn't have was the original ending that was released in the theaters. Spoiler Alert: In the theatrical version, in the end you see a photograph the true individuals this movie is based on. Sit back and watch it with the entire family.
Pretty much a family-friendly movie, except for some colorful language (why that was necessary is beyond me, as it adds nothing to the story!). Wholesome and fun for animal and people lovers everywhere.

Great movie! Matt Damon did an excellent job in this movie. Basically his wife and the children's mother died 6 mo's prior-- this is how movie starts off, no spoilers here. He decides that they need to move and need changes in the family lives, and why not? Great for the family, although there is some cuss words in it unfortunately.. Overall it is a great story and based on real events. I hope the family in real life got paid well for this film!!
I liked the fact that it was based on a true story about a real family. Good hook!
