My husband picked this up at a yard sale and my job was to test it and test it I did. If I had some open floor space and did not have a crawling baby, I would keep this item for myself. It was so much fun!
Original box and pieces seem to be there. I counted the track pieces and there were 53. I checked the included manual and there should be 53. There were four triggers for making cars go, two power packs, four cars, three of which are functional.
To test this item, I took out enough track pieces to make a nice oval. Some of the cars were in pieces with the body parts not on the chassis and windows not in place. At first nothing worked. Then I recalled this same thing happening from childhood tracks and I ran downstairs for some sand paper.
On the oval track I snapped together, I sanded the metal rails that contact with the cars and lightly sanded the metal parts on the cars that contact with the track. I dusted the track lightly with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball to remove the dust from the sand paper plus I figure alcohol and race tracks go hand in hand.
This was the trick. After that, my children and I enjoyed a long bout of racing the cars around the oval, adding in the switch track, flying off the track, etc.
Sadly, one car is not functional. It makes a nice spark when on the track and makes a sound like it wants to go but it does not. I tried everything to reserruct this little guy but it never moved forward.
Consider this a track with three cars. Currently, the blue one is not functioning correctly. The plastic body pieces are interchangeable and with the flying off the track action of these fast cars, unsnapping the body for minor repairs is a must. These cars will crash, especially when you use the switch track, and they will have minor damage you will need to fix. I am fairly useless but managed to fix them time and again. Before you play, I recommend looking carefully at a functional car so you know what you will need to put in place when cars fly off the track and into the rail, the wall, the dog, man this was fun testing.
Some of the cars have the windows popped out. After a particularly good crash, I did not pop the window back in to give me an advantage over my young son. He did not know why my car started beating his. The joys of wisdom that come with age...
There are a lot of other pieces in the box. There are little plastic supporters that raise the track, struts (I have no idea what these are for), guard rails, flag pole sprues, some decals (some are missing), instructions for creating several awesome tracks beyond my abilities, and other original paperwork. I do not know whether all of these little pieces are here or not. The box is cluttered with these things but I did not count them.
I will throw in some sand paper so you can make the rest of the track work. The original instructions call for a piece of sand paper so my memory was correct. You will have to provide your own alcohol for your raceway. I can't ship that in the box in good conscience.
Overall, you are getting an awesomely sweet vintage track you will fondly remember from your childhood. Later generations (my kids) were fascinated with this gem and dropped the Xbox controls in favor of the triggers. Much joy was had by all but the dog.
Again, I cannot guarantee all of the minor pieces are there but if not, anyone capable of reading this far could easily fabricate some sort of alternative. Please read the sum up description below before bidding:
Track: all there, ready to go Power packs and triggers: Present and accounted for, working great
Cars: Have seen better days...lots of rubbing going on out there but three of them are race ready and one can be parted out or perhaps you can repair it. I could not:(
Instructions for highly-complicated track: Check Lots of random plastic pieces I do not understand: Included but not counted
Instructions for minor repairs/troubleshooting: Check
I tried to be descriptive, honest, and fair. If I left something important out, ask away. No reserve. Highest bidder will enjoy endless hours of fun reliving his/her childhood, bonding with offspring, showing off for friends, winning large pots at races because you cheated by popping out windows to make your car lighter/faster...The possibilities are endless!
Please note, I am not trying to rip you off with shipping. The box is pretty big...it would have been your showpiece under the tree on Christmas morning.
Thanks for looking.
