I grew up with my mother and father cooking some fabulous meals on this vintage Tappan Stove. It has many fond memories for me and I cooked some of my first meals on this stove. Unfortunately unbeknown to me it was placed outdoors and so has become a restoration project but is an incredible piece of nostalgia well worth the investment of funds and time.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tappan appliances was founded by W.J. Tappan as the Ohio Valley Foundry Company in Bellaire, Ohio in 1881 selling cast-iron stoves door-to-door. The company relocated to Mansfield, Ohio in 1889 and was renamed the Eclipse Stove Company before being renamed the Tappan Stove Company. In 1950, Tappan acquired the Los Angeles-based O'Keefe & Merritt Stove Company and used the O'Keefe & Merritt name primarily in the West Coast of America from 1950 to the late 1980's.
Tappan claims several innovations, including:
- 1920s all-porcelain range available in various colors
- 1955 the first microwave oven model for home use.
- 1960s electric ignition for gas ranges
- 1965 single unit conventional range and microwave oven.
Tappan, then a part of Frigidaire, became a subsidiary of Electrolux in 1979. The North American division of Electrolux was reorganized in 1997 as Electrolux Home Products of North America, consolidating American Yard Products, Frigidaire, and Poulan/Weedeater.
I was born in 1954 and my parents had this stove from before I was born. I am assuming that the stove is therefore from the late 40's or early 50's.
The stove is located just outside of Princeton NJ and now in a storage unit that also contains a wood burning cook stove, old vice, an antique gas chandelier, a dented gas can, a stainless steel double sink, an old hand water pump etc. If any of these other items interest you please also let me know and I will provide info.
I will also consider reasonable offers
The stove is dirty, has rust, needs work and is being sold as is.
It cannot be shipped and is pick up only
I reside in Florida and so pick up would have to be coordinated with my daughter who lives and works in Manhattan and who has the key to the storage.
I had hoped to have this in my home one day but I must sell it so hope that someone will bring it back to life...
It is being sold as is, I have found a vast amount of Tappan stove parts online and I do believe that it can be fully restored.
Otherwise simply cleaned up and used as décor
I am sorry but no returns are accepted
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions and I will do my best to help you
Thank you and have fun bidding
