Vintage NEW ENGLAND CLOCK Co. 8 Day Chiming Wall Clock - Key Wind: Up for auction is wonderful vintage 8-Day, Chiming Wall Clock made by THE NEW ENGLAND CLOCK Co. - Bristol and Farmington, Connecticut (the dial is marked Bristol, Connecticut but the paper label and the movement is marked with their Farmington, Connecticut facility). The New England Clock Co. is known for their stunning, furniture quality cases and their floral designed dials and this clock is a perfect example of those trademark qualities. The large wooden case is a statement piece. Quite large with a large hinged door with a wonderful piece of glass that is free of any cracks or chips. The case itself does show some minor scuffs and scratches but these are not deep or compromising the overall beauty of this clock. The paper label is fully intact, individually numbered and the only discrepancy is the light line which the pendulum has created. There are also the two interesting side pieces which I have not seen in other examples. The wood and stain matches exactly with the case and there is a small hole in the top of each cylinder shaped 'finial' but I just do not know what their purpose is so I apologize that I cannot explain what these are for... This clock was part of a collection from a retired watch and clock maker/repairman from here in New Hampshire and I wish that I had him adjust the pallet before I took this clock home with me. The clock is in working condition but when it is working, every time the pendulum swings back and forth, the pallet releases the escapement wheel for too long and the clock skips ahead 10 minutes per swing of the pendulum. I believe the quick fix would be to slightly adjust the pallet however I do not feel comfortable adjusting this piece and I will leave this quick fix up to the winning bidder.
I will also be posting for auction a New England Clock Co. Cuckoo Clock housing group following this listing (see picture #10). Very similar in design, the cuckoo clock needs everything (movement, bellows, chains, weights, etc.) but it would make a great project to build or to have built by a clockmaker and I think that the pair of clocks would be a wonderful complimentary pair in any home.
