Vintage Metal Broadside "The Original Dixiana Trained Animal Circus" - 43" tall

VINTAGE DIXIANA TRAINED ANIMAL CIRCUS

LARGE BROADSIDE

This wonderful sign is a circus broadside and is advertising "The Original Dixiana Trained Animal Circus".  It is printed in black on a relatively light weight metal sheet.  It would have been hung somewhere with the traveling circus for advertisement.  It is now nailed to an old, somewhat weathered wooden board and strung to hang as a wall hanging.  There is slight discoloration and warping to the metal but this is not untypical for a sign that hung outdoors.  This circus was started by a man named Charlie Koehler who was a practicing attorney and CFA member.  It was a show that was made up of mostly trained animals performing tricks.  We are unsure of the exact year in which this two wagon old-time southern circus began.  It is documented that they decorated their wagons in bright Confederate motif.  So perhaps that is the period they were traveling in.  This show was a circus lover's dream come true ... Maybe this sign is a dream come true for a circus collector.  Measures 43" tall and 14 1/8" wide.
