Up for your consideration is a vintage Lyon & Healy Mystic banjo for parts or restoration. This would make a great project with what looks like most of the banjo still there. It would be a shame to tear this apart. From what I've seen on the internet this looks like it is from the 1890's, but I know nothing about banjos at all. I bought this because I thought it was old. I held a yardstick up against the neck and it looks pretty straight. This measures about 33 1/2" long x 11" across the widest part. The pictures show a crack near the tuner knobs, but this is only a slight crack in the darker veneer and looks a lot worse in the close up pictures than in real life. The tuning knobs feel like they are made of plastic, but not too sure? They are all in pretty good condition (other than a good cleaning). The one lone tuner knob is lighter in color, but looks exactly like the other four. One of the tuners has a small crack near the screw as seen in the close up. There is rust, loss of chrome plating and some green on the metal round part. There is an inlay missing up near the tuners. The back of the neck has a great color and looks like the original finish to me, but not sure. The top of the neck has a darker wood inlaid along with what looks like mother of pearl inlays. The star inlay has a crack across one point. The wood piece across the round part looks like in very nice condition, straight with no damage. The metal bracket holding the wood piece in place looks to be made from chrome plated brass and has chrome loss and the name "Ora White Charity" scratched into the metal. This looks like it has been etched (not very well) quite a while ago, there is age and rust to the name. I could find nothing on the internet about her. I will tell the winner of the sale where I purchased this if they would like to know after the sale is over if you would like to find out more about the banjo. I think I remember the exact house I bought this from if you were interested in doing a reverse white pages listing look up. The "Mystic" nameplate is in great condition with some marks and wear, but overall very nice! The marks are only on the surface. The edges are sharp. I have not tried to clean this at all, or any part of the banjo, I was going to polish it all up until I found out it was this old, so I left this for the new owner. This would even make a great display just to hang on the wall the way it is. I've been using it as an air guitar, but figured I better sell it before I break it. Judging from what looks like the 2 knobs to put a strap on this, the player may have been left handed. I see no cracks in the wood anywhere, there are scratches, dings and wear though. Some of the screws are rusty. Again I know nothing about banjos, so if you have any questions, please email and I will answer them for you and learn something at the same time. This will be packaged very well for shipping. There will be NO RESERVE!!
