Vintage J.P. Jean Pouyat China Hot Chocolate Pot 6 Demitasse Cup & Saucer Set
"An eclectic collector of china's dream come true"
The price is for this extremly rare, most likely, "One of a kind" handpainted Limoges porcelain china hot chocolate set including pot, six footed cups and six saucers made by Jean Pouyat in Limoges France. The pattern features elegant handpainted purple lilies with green stems and leaves on a light pastel blue limoges porcelain background accented by dramatic gold trim on molded handles, knobs and rims. The inside of the cups are a delicate opalescent which adds even more beauty to this handpainted set. According to the ink stamps on the bottoms, the date of manufacturing was between 1891 and 1932. Please refer to the photographs.
The shape of this hot chocolate pot and the ornate matching handles on the pot, cups, and lid are very seldom seen because few have survived the near past one hundred years. It certainly appears this set was only used for display purposes.
This set is located in California where earthquakes are not uncommon. The bottom rim only, of the hot chocolate pot has had a small strip of non-slip applied to it to prevent it from coasting off a shelf during an earthquake.
The measurements of this vintage Jean Pouyat handpainted hot chocolate pot are: 46 ounce capacity: 9 3/4 inch height with lid on: 8 inch rim height without lid: 6 1/8 inch length spout through handle: 6 inch diameter of widest part of chocolate pot.
The measurements of these rare vintage Jean Pouyat Limoges porcelain china hot chocolate/ demitasse cups are: nearly 5 ounce capacity: 2 7/8 inch height: 2 3/8 inch rim diameter. The saucers have a 4 7/8 inch diameter.
There is a manufacturer's flaw on the inner rim of one cup which I featured in the last photograph. It was done during the manufacturing process because the gold trim goes over it, only detectable upon very close examination and does not affect the integrity of the cup at all. Below the handle on the foot of one cup is a small burn mark made in the kiln during firing. These very rare, old Jean Pouyat Limoges porcelain china hot chocolate set including hot chocolate pot, six cups and six saucer are in excellent vintage displayed only condition: no chips (just the manufacturers' flaws mentioned above and featured in the last photograph): no cracks: no discoloration: no fading of gold trim or colors: no signs of usage at all. I have many different china items, silverplate, crystal and glass items listed and available to view in my store.
