Vintage Gold and Pearl Cameo Necklace/Brooch with removable chain

This Cameo is breathtaking in detail with Gold and Pearl embellishments around the bezel. This particular cameo portrays an angel with two cherubs at her knees.

Cameo is 2 7/8" x 2" and this chain is designed to be removed so it can be worn as a brooch.

The chain is approximately 16" and the spring ring is marked 14K. This gorgeous piece has a lifetime guarantee of authenticity.  Also, the cameo is not marked but has a swivel at the top so could also be worn with a single chain.

Cameos, miniature works of art in sculpture, have been cherished by collectors since at least the 4th century B.C. Many cameos, referred to as "messages in agate" tell the history of the time they were carved by portraying customs, historic events, and social occasions. Ancient cameos were intended as statements and only in the last few hundred years has the significance lessened only to portray females. Some of the uses for the cameo in ancient times were as amulets, talismans, an affirmation of faith, to portray ethics and morals and even show destiny. Others showed loyalty to royalty and allowed preferential visits or immunity with the ruler at the time.

Shell cameos are admired for their own merits and can be found carved with a wide range of artistic details.
