This brilliant oil on artist board measures 20 x 24” actual; 26 x 29” in its grungy gilt impressionist frame and is signed lower left, Geo Baum. George C Baum (1884-1974) was born in Sweetser, Indiana and moved to Brown County, Indiana later in life, tirelessly painting the changing seasons of the Indiana landscape. A pupil of both Davisson and C Curry Bohm, this work exhibits the bright palette, loose, vigorous brushwork and surprise daubs of color that have made Baum’s works so popular. The painting is very clean and free of problems with a provenance from the Family of the artist. The frame is pretty battered on the corners.
