Supposedly, the Coin Hunter only had a 7-1/2" coil included with it. The diameter of the polymer housing on this unit is 8-1/4" in diameter. The coil housing has light scuffs on it, but no chips or cracks.

The green anodized 7/8" aluminum boom extends from 21-1/2" to 35" with stops at 21-1/2" (retracted), 27-3/4", 29", 30-3/4", 32", 33-1/2", and 35". A further 3-1/2" adjustment to the length is available at the housing mount.

Three large dials (METER Increase/Decrease {black dial}, VOLUME On/Off Increase/Decrease {red dial}, and TUNING Metal/Null {black dial}).
Two smaller dials SENSITIVITY Increase/Decrease {black dial}, DISCRIMINATION Increase/Decrease {black dial}.
Push button TR discriminator mounted on the end of a comfortable red vinyl handle.
An analog meter is mounted on top forward to and under the
A 1/4" earphones jack is mounted on the side.
It has a built in 2" speaker mounted on top.
Two position battery test switch.

The unit is powered by four 9 volt PP3 batteries fitted to a slide in battery pack with room for two spares. The pack has 6 slots - 2 for the detection circuit, 2 for the audio circuit, and 2 for spare batteries (the detection circuit depletes power faster than the audio circuit). Batteries were installed for testing purposes and are shown mounted in the battery pack in the photos (the two spare slots are empty), but the batteries are not included in this auction.

A sticker on the bottom indicates the unit was purchased from Keith's Treasures/Garrett Metal Detectors, 1436 Mich. Blvd. Racine, Wis. 53402 1-414-637-6658

The green metal housing and boom of the unit has some scuffs and scratches, but no dents or significant damage.

polymer coil housing is scuffed but has no dents, chips, or cracks.

All the knobs turn freely and switches click firmly.

Unlike poorly maintained equipment of this vintage there is no corrosion in the battery compartment or any signs of water damage in or on the detector. The internal circuitry I can see is very clean as are the pin connector's for the battery pack.

All screws are in place, there is no evidence this unit was ever disassembled or tampered with.

The 4" x 3-1/2" analog meter on top is missing its original bezel. It has been replaced by a smaller polycarbonate cover that is secured with silicone. If you could find the right sized bezel from another meter, you could replace it, although the needle of the meter has been shortened to little more than 1/4" (see photos) so you may want to replace that too or add an extension.

I have tested this unit with fresh batteries, and the two battery test circuits test OK, so does the meter as I get maximum deflection of the shortened needle when doing a power check. I also get movement of the needle by adjusting the meter knob. However, I have not been able to get this unit to detect metallic objects or get the speaker to sound. Whether the unit is defective or it's just my unfamiliarity with it I do not know (it has a lot of settings). I do not have a set of headphones to check that circuit, but I will try to locate a pair. If I find the unit to be operational, I will post it here before auction end. For now I am selling it "as is". If the unit should require repair, the circuit board is very primitive compared to today's electronics.

I do not have the original owner's manual. I contacted Garrett Electronics, Inc., known for their outstanding customer service, and they informed me that this model was produced from 1975-1977, and the relevant information is in the "P.B. Deepseeker™ and P.B. Groundhog" manual ("P.B." - Push Button). I am including a copy of that manual in this auction.

I am not familiar with these units, so please ask questions if I overlooked something.

I have seen a lot of variants while researching this model, but could not find much information this particular version (5 knobs with push button), other than what I put in the description.

Net weight of item: 4 pounds 1 ounce

Check with your country's customs office to determine what these costs will be prior to bidding. These are not additional shipping charges. Do not ask me to under value auction items or list the item as a gift on customs forms.
  • Note: For UPS Standard shipments to Canada, UPS charges a brokerage fee for taking the package through customs that is due upon receiving the package.
  • NO P.O. Box delivery, APO/FPO delivery, or sales/shipping to Italy or Korea – sorry.
  • Shipment to PayPal confirmed addresses only. My responsibility will extend only to shipping the auction item to that address and no others beyond that.
  • Buyer pays actual shipping plus $1 to cover the cost of packaging materials. I try to reuse/recycle packaging materials as much as possible.
  • Please keep in mind eBay and PayPal charges the seller final value fees on the shipping costs as well as the item price (eBay 10%, PayPal 2.9%). I usually lose money on shipping.
  • Shipping is calculated for exact cost by location. The eBay calculator is frequently erroneous. However, I encourage you to wait for an invoice from me at the end of the auction to determine exact shipping charges to your locale. Overcharges over $1 are refunded except for the eBay portion which is impossible to recover once you have paid it. Often a higher level of shipping service is available depending on your location and type of box used at a price comparable to that shown by the shipping calculator.
  • I will gladly combine shipping of additional items purchased thru my auctions into one box of reasonable size and weight if possible. Please contact me at auction end if you are awaiting the results of another auction. DO NOT PAY for the item(s) until you receive an adjusted shipping invoice from me. The calculated combined shipping cost provided by eBay WILL BE WRONG!
  • I WILL NOT use shipping charges as a profit generator. Please bid accordingly.

Returns Policy

  •  NO Refunds/Returns unless item has been grossly misrepresented. I do my best to accurately describe the item(s). A full refund plus shipping will be given for misrepresented items upon return. No partial refunds. Contact me within three days of receipt of the item if you intend to return it.
  • I take pride in ensuring the items I sell are well packages. I cannot accept responsibility for what happens to the item once it is shipped. All claims must be handled by you with the shipping company. I will send you the original insurance receipt from the shipper so you can file a claim.

  • After your payment is received and item is shipped I will post feedback. I will not "blackmail" you into leaving feedback before I do. Probably due to my policy, my actual purchases/sales count is about 3 times my feedbacks. If I forget to post feedback, remind me. It is an important part of the auction process. Once your item is received and you are satisfied please leave feedback. .
Thanks For L@@king, Good Luck, & Happy Bidding!

On Feb-16-14 at 15:45:42 PST, seller added the following information:

The switches and contacts were cleaned. I get an audible tone through the speakers. The earphone jack works.

I got a change in tone and needle deflection when passing the detector over several coins in discrimination mode but honestly, I haven't figured out how this thing works
