Condition:

          This instrument was acquired from a private estate; as such, its exact age and history are not known.  The wood is in fair condition, on careful inspection several scuffs and scratches are visible, the veneer is cracked in a few places on both sides.  All metal fittings, screws, thumb strap buckles and finger shelves show light tarnishing and should clean up well; the screws are undamaged, but for one which is slightly damaged but still usable.  The straps on each side show moderate wear with the interior lining worn through exposing a brass tab; though they remain strong and do not stretch or feel flimsy.

          All buttons (30) are intact, operate smoothly and return to the up position.  The bellows appear to be in fair condition, but they have no rips or tears, they’re just aged.  The concertina, when played, still produces fine notes for each and every button and smoothly compresses and opens with the air release valve.

Through the openings on each side, the silver lining can be seen to be coming detached from the boards.  This is clearly visible in all pictures showing each board.  I suspect this is easily fixed.

The mentioned problems do not seem to be severe enough to impair its use, I believe it could be played for some time, but may need some attention before regular use.

The included case is in fair shape with a few scrapes bad enough to expose the cardboard backer.  The appliqué on the underside of the lid is coming up, but could easily be glued back down.  The metal fittings on handle are steel and the discoloration in the picture is rust.  No doubt at one time they were plated.  The zipper, handle and case itself are still strong, though.
