3M and the Wollensak Division

One of the players in the Reel To Reel tape recorder market was Wollensak,  a division of the 3M Company. 3M (Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing) are the makers of the Scotch brand tape products. They also produced magnetic recording tape on reels and cassettes. 3M's reputation for producing a solid performing product at a reasonable price was well known.

It is not unusual to find 3M was also selling reel to reel tape recorders under the Wollensak name. 3M purchased the Revere Camera Company of Chicago, IL in 1960. Wollensak Optical Company was purchased by Revere Camera in the 1950's to supply their line of camera equipment.

Also, Wollensak was a brand name under Revere Camera for a line of high quality cameras and camera equipment. In the 1950's, Revere Camera began producing a line of quality reel to reel tape recorders under the label of Wollensak. They were considered to be good quality machines for the US market.

After the purchase of Revere Camera Company, 3M continued the Wollensak Reel to Reel line but only added the 3M mark in front of the label.

Notes:

1. There are some surface scratches and marks from normal use and age.

2. There are residual marks from an old adhesive used for a pad to portect the top cover from scratching the lower unit. Most of it has been cleaned off from the main unit and inside of the top metal cover. Complete removal and replacement of the remainder pad maybe needed. Additional cleaning maybe needed.

3. There is a crack in the plastic cover of the Tone (Rotary) Control knob. It does not affect the operation of the Tone Control knob.

4. There is no Book of Instructions for this unit.

5. This unit is Operational, may need Tune Up/Adjustment due to age.

6. This equipment is sold AS IS wth NO WARRANTY Implied or Attached.
